Key functions of the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District:
The Northern Ostrobothnia District is a municipal federation which arranges the provision of specialized health care within its district as stipulated by law. It owns and runs hospitals and other operational units to carry out its statuory functions and also provides additional health care related services.
The Hospital District's aim is to promote health of the population in cooperation with other social and health care service providers. Oulu University Hospital is responsible for the provision of highly specialized health care services in its operational area, which covers the entire Northern Finland. The university hospital district also provides education for medical, social- and health care professionals and carries out scientific research in order to ensure the provision of effective and up-to-date health services to general public.
